Well, we're still in awe of what an amazing shower Carolynn, my mom and Moira put together for us on Saturday night. I'm sure we'll be reminiscing for a long time. Everything was so well done and looked beautiful - the pea pod theme and baby clothesline were so very cute. The band was amazing and I know everyone really enjoyed the food and the open bar! As a final touch, Mary Vaughan provided the clever and adorable peapod candy bars. Thank you so much Carolynn, Moira, Mom and Mary! Thank you to everyone for the generous gifts and for being there to share in the celebration. We are blown away with everything we received.
I had a lot of contractions yesterday during the home monitoring so they had to call the doctor and he decided he wanted to start me on a medicine that will ease the contractions. So, today a nurse came to show me how to administer it. The medicine is called Terbutaline and it is administered through a small catheter that pumps into my thigh 24 hours a day. It is just a small dose to start and then they can increase it as needed. It is a pain to have to wear this all the time and to have to change out the medicine every 2 days, but it is nice that things are so high-tech these days to allow me to do this from home vs. the hospital.
I had to do a quick Glucose test today which checks for Gestational Diabetes (common for multiple pregnancies). You drink this syrup-like drink and then an hour later they take your blood. So, they will let me know the results on that test. I was able to talk to the doctor and he explained that starting me on the Terbutaline Infusions is one more measure he can take that will help to keep me out of the hospital. He said "you do know that you will be admitted at some point before you are ready to deliver right?". I really didn't know that this would be a definite but he was setting my expectation that I will be in the hospital at some point. He said he is just doing everything possible to get me through the 20's (in terms of # of weeks) without having to be admitted. He said he would be ecstatic if I got to 30 weeks before having to be admitted and if I went to 32 weeks before delivering he would be so thrilled he'd "run around the office buck naked". It looks like my last day of work is going to be April 4th so that I can have everything wrapped up beforehand assuming nothing happens before then.
Let's hope there are no more curve balls this week...
